AI can screen a material against the RoHS restricted substances and REACH SVHC list instantly, flag likely exposures, and note missing data. It cannot replace the mill certificate or supplier declaration — the audit trail still comes from documents. Treat AI as the triage layer, not the final authority.

A faster screening workflow

Step 1: query material.compliance.v1 for the material. Step 2: review the flagged substances and check against your BOM. Step 3: request the supplier certificate only for flagged items. Step 4: archive the AI screening log alongside the certificate for your audit file.

Worked example: screening a switch housing

A screening call for ABS returns RoHS status "excellent" with no critical substances flagged, and the tool lists the test standard for reference. The engineer saves the log, requests the certificate from the molder, and closes the item in one sitting.

Common pitfalls

Do not treat a screening pass as certificate-equivalent. Always confirm coverage per batch or heat. And keep the tool version and data source dated in the log so your audit trail is defensible.
